Outline of JEMIMA > Industry Prospect

Electric measuring instruments are used in semiconductors, digital consumer electronics, communications, and other segments of the electronics industry, along with steel, chemicals, oil refining, power, food, waterworks, and other process fields, as well as a wide range of other industries, in the monitoring and control of production systems, quality inspection, research and development, and other diverse applications. Electric measuring instruments have long been the key tools in all industrial sectors. Electric measuring instruments will continue to meet the needs of new measurement applications such as in high-tech fields, while supporting a wide range of industrial areas.

JEMIMA conducts various statistical surveys of electric measuring instruments, and then compiles and publishes its findings every year in the form of an outlook report.

The charts below are excerpts from the "Mid-term Forecast of Electric Measuring Instruments" edited by the Demand Prediction Committee.

The production of electric measuring instruments reached 827.1 billion yen in fiscal 2000. With the subsequent slowdown of the telecommunications industry due to the recession experienced by the information technology industry, the comparable figure dropped as low as 509.6 billion yen in fiscal 2002. However, fiscal 2003 and 2004 saw double-digit growth due to the recovery of the digital consumer electronics and semiconductor-related industries. Fiscal 2005 is expected to see restrained capital investments, resulting in a temporary decline. However, due to the expected proliferation of next-generation mobile communications equipment, along with such demand factors as oil refinery and steel where investments are to be made in updating facilities and equipment, business is predicted to grow again, centering on electric measuring instruments.
